DISORDERS: PHYSICAL AND MENTAL

Many people are ashamed to reveal that they have a psychological or mental problem. They think that admitting that they have a psychological problems is equivalent to admitting that they are mentally weak or they are not capable of managing their on affairs. But the paradox is no one having a physical illness consider their illness as an evidence of their physical weakness. This is because we believe that the mind is something distinct and even separate from our bodies. In fact scientific advancement have well proved that mind is a product of our brain.
Functional and structural disruptions in brain can lead to psychiatric symptoms. The social and emotional milieu in which we live also profoundly influence or brain/mind's function. The emotional/ psychological/ mental disturbances are caused by interacting psychological social and biological factors. Effective treatment of which needs intervention into all these aspects of the disorder.
The primary intervention in a psychiatric disorder can be a psychological intervention like psychotherapy or medical treatment or intervention into the social factors depending upon the nature of the disorder. Most often it is a combination of all the three which is ideal

I have a question,...How does one find a psychiatrist to take your son as a patient? My son was under care of a psych dr since age 17 yr. He has affective schizophrenia and was unresponsive to all treatment of medications up until 2 years ago...enter clozaril Needless to say, he was admitted to a LTF nursing home for the mentally ill as he was a danger to himself and others. After starting clozaril, he became a new person and steadily has shown great improvement...to the point the doctor at the ICF felt he was ready to be discharged home. ( No openings at DMH apts or homes. )after bringinghim home 2 days ago...I have been told he only has a 8 day supply of clozaril whih needs a cbc done due to the possible effects of the med on the blood count...and a new perscription given. I have called counteds psychiatrist offices for appt andam presently in a panic mode as nonewill take him as a patient...and the doctor that discharge him. is saiid to be returing and not taking new patients. so I called the DMH clinic in sterling and was told he can't get into see a doctor until 2 months..they are 'bogged down" ..that if someone cancelled perhaps...well, I am just beside myself what to do. my son has made such an improvement and ready to get on with his life...and now this, My question is...How can I get a doctor to take him as a pat asap? He is on PA and also medicare part A and B. I am pretty sure all offices are being sincere about being overloaded...but at the same time I can't have my son go into an unecessary relapse after 8 9 dayss to go. any advise is appreciated. Mr Cindy
As a responsible parent i can understand your plight. Its very clear that your son has gone into full remission with clozapine.Infact it is the most useful drug in refractory schizophrenia. It will be ideal that you continue the drug with close blood count monitoring for consistent benefits. So as early as possible contact a psychiatrist. To which place does you belong to?
